General characteristics of alloy-
SS 347 is stainless steel elaborated to meet national and international standards. It is stabilized with niobium; therefore this grade achieves good corrosion resistance in the higher temperatures. When it is exposed to the temperature range from 450 deg C to 900 deg C, however, some grade in this range tends to form chromium carbide precipitation in the grain boundary region. Thus, a grade becomes susceptible to intergranular attacks. With niobium, stabilization grade inhibits the formations of chromium carbide and consistently increase resistance to this type of corrosion. This alloy has excellent weldability features and properties common to standard austenitic steels. Also, it has high mechanical properties that assure good ductility. Thus is recommended for cold working operations. Mainly, the application of this alloy intended for corrosive environments and in high temperatures. Stainless Steel 347 Flanges are easily welded and processed by standard manufacturing operations. Machining rate is low in the cold working state; however, it is similar to other standard grades. the hot working temperature of flanges are between 2100 deg F to 2250 deg F. this is recommended for forging, upsetting and other hot forming operations. the hot working operation is not recommended at below 1700 deg F. these flanges must be water quenched or processed from annealing after hot working to attain higher corrosion resistance properties. Alloy 347 is quite ductile and forms easily in the cold formed condition. Stainless Steel 347 Flanges are readily weldable by most standard welding operations. However, the post weld heat treatment is not required.
