About collars:
These collars are used around the plumbing pipes. These are consists of a metal base which usually made out of aluminium and rubber boot that is integrated into the collars. This rubber boot is available in different sizes according to the size of the pipe where it is used.

Majority of collars are failed due to the failure of rubber boot. Failure takes the form of either split in the rubber. Not all collars get failed due to the bad rubber boots, also leaks are caused by the plumbing pipe itself when it is not cleaned properly before it is installed. A broken collar can allow water to travel around the outside of pipeline where it will usually follow until the pipe turns or hits.

On the final note of collars, even though the high leakage possibility by these collars occurs from the rubber boot, other checks are also done by the professionals for prominent checking. The inspection makes sure this part of the collar is seated and sealed properly.
