About SS 254 SMO- This alloy is having the greater nickel content and 6% of molybdenum and other alloying elements like nitrogen and copper. This alloy is developed for the purpose of resisting stress corrosion cracking at the boiling chloride solutions. It is easy to weld and fabricate. The alloy is suitable for use in the applications like oil and gas platforms process system, processing industries, etc.
This high alloyed material and suggested forging temperature ranging 1300/1050 Deg C, followed by the solution annealing at 1150 Deg C minimum temperature. However, this alloy isn’t easy to machine, in fact, it is a little bit more difficult to machine it as compared to normal austenitic SS. This alloy chemical analysis is such that both ferrite and austenitic are formed on cooling from welding, providing hot cracking resistance. The post welding annealing is recommended.
