UNS N08904 is a super austenitic grade developed for lower to higher corrosion resistance in the wide range of process environments. Also, it is comprised of chromium and nickel content that is coupled with the additions of molybdenum content. It has also a small amount of copper that assures good excellent to corrosion resistance. This alloy has chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance. Also, it serves good performance in the pit and crevice corrosion environments. Originally, this grade is designed to withstand in the environments that contain higher sulfuric acids. It also offers good resistance to organic and inorganic acids. The working temperature of this alloy is between 850 deg C to 1150 deg C. it is also recommended for hot working operations. The standard hot working operation is followed by quenching and solution annealing process. The hot forming operations are stopped at temperatures above 1100 deg C.
Alloy 904L is weldable using common resistance and fusion welding operations. These are also weldable with all standard welding operations. Highly alloyed consumable is preferred to give the best corrosion resistance properties in the welded zones.
