Description of carbon steel-
Carbon steel is a metal that is having steel with the addition of carbon of 2.1%. According to AISI, the carbon steel is that steel in which no content is defined for the alloys like molybdenum, cobalt, zirconium, tungsten, titanium, niobium, and nickel for obtaining alloying effects. Also, CS is said to be as it is when the defined amount of copper don’t exceed 0.40%.
Moreover when the percentage of carbon increases steel alloy gets the ability to become stronger and harder by the process of heat treatment. Therefore it becomes less ductile. Aside from heat treatment, greater carbon content is reducing welding ability. In CS greater carbon content is lowering melting points.

Carbon steel is divided into 3 major classes that are low CS, medium CS, and high CS.
Low/mild CS- This CS is having a carbon of 0.40%-0.30%. It is covering greater diversity of shapes that is from a flat sheet to the structural beam. However, based on the needed properties, other alloys are increased. Likewise in DQ the carbon is kept lesser and aluminum is included and structural steel level of carbon is greater and manganese is raised.

Medium CS- It is having the carbon of 0.31%-0.60% addition to the manganese of .060%-1.65%. It is stronger than low CS and is harder to form, cut and weld. Medium CS is tempered and hardened through heat treatment.

High CS- It is called as carbon tool steel and carbon ranges from 0.61%-1.50%. High CS is harder to bend, cut and weld. Once it is provided heat treatment properly, it becomes very much harder and brittle.
