About alloy Monel K500-
Monel K500 alloy is the precipitation-hardenable copper and nickel alloy that is combining the good corrosion resistance property. It is having added advantage of high tensile strength and high hardness. These amplified attributes are acquired by the addition of the alloying elements like titanium and aluminum to the base of nickel-copper and by the thermal processing that is used for effecting precipitation, called as aging or age hardening. When in the age hardened condition this alloy is having a high tendency towards SCC in fewer atmospheres. This alloy is having about 3 times the yielding strength and 2 times the tensile strength. Also, it can be strengthened through the process of cold working before precipitation hardening.
This alloy strength is well maintained at the temperature ranging 1200 Deg F but it stays tough and ductile to the temperature ranging 400 Deg F. The melting ranges of this product are 2400 to 2460 Deg F. This alloy is spark resistant and is non-magnetic in nature in temperature ranging -200 Deg F. It is possible to develop the magnetic layer on this metal surface at the time of processing. Copper and aluminum might be oxidized selectively at the time of heating, leaving the magnetic nickel film on the outside. The bright dipping and pickling in the acid can remove the magnetic film and also restore non-magnetic of the alloy.
