P9 material is a ferritic alloy steel composed of Chromium (Cr) - 1.0-1.5%, Molybdenum (Mo) - 0.45-0.65%, Manganese (Mn) - 0.2-0.6%, Carbon (C) - 0.15 max., Silicon (Si) - 0.40max., and Iron (Fe). On the other hand, P91 material is an alloy steel composed of Chromium (Cr) - 9.0-9.5%, Molybdenum (Mo) - 0.85-1.05%, Vanadium (V) - 0.18-0.25%, Manganese (Mn) - 0.3-0.7%, Carbon (C) - 0.15-0.25%, Phosphorous (P) - 0 .025max., Sulfur(S)- 0 .025max., Silicon(Si)- 0 .50 max., and Iron(Fe). The higher chromium content in the P91 material makes it more resistant to high temperature applications than the P9 material, making it more suitable for extreme stress applications over long periods of time due to its higher creep strain limit compared to the P9 material.
A335 Gr P9 pipe is mainly used for high-temperature service applications, such as power plants and petrochemical industries. It is suitable for use in extreme stress situations since it has a higher creep strain limit than the more common P22 pipe. A335 Gr P9 pipe is also used in fertilizers and condensers due to its superior temperature strength and corrosion resistance. Additionally, this type of pipe can be used for gas mains, oil lines, steam lines and water lines.
